Transportable Lathes
give you complete service shop capabilities on your turbine floor. Our
practical field engineering experience has produced a rigid, compact
modular design for efficient operation and can be set-up or dismantled
in one day. Lathes are available to turn rotors up to 240 tons, 18 feet
in diameter, and 47 feet long. Versatile modular design of the portable
lathe allows the bed sections, side frame, headstock, tailstock, tool
pedestal, and bearing support pedestals to be arranged to suit any size
rotor. Solid bearings versus rollers or V-blocks are used to insure a
high level of accuracy, without damage to running areas and allow us to
meet or exceed OEM tolerances.
Oil lift pumps provide lift and lubrication to the solid bearings. These
bearings allow the rotor to turn around its own center thus insuring
concentricity when grinding journals and seal areas.
Leveling pads under the bed distribute the weight and allow the lathe to
be set-up and leveled without attachment to the floor. The lathe may be
used for other machining requirements including: bucket work, shroud
machining, bucket removal, coupling machining, seal modifications, crack
removal, stress relief grooves and journal and seal area grinding.
